força fundraising helps the local community

força - strength against cancer strives to raise funds to help people living with cancer in Hampshire and Dorset. Funds have provided financial assistance, support, education and practical advice. força has helped retain key cancer treatment services in the local area, set up support groups for people surviving cancer, educate on nutrition and lifestyle and much, much more. força - strength against cancer has been priviledged to help a number of individuals and families during their treatment and their ongoing journey....

Nourish ... by força

In January 2016, força strength against cancer launched Nourish...by força. The aim is to provide delicious meals to local people undergoing cancer treatment. Originally at the chemotherapy unit at Oakhaven Hospice, this has been expanded twice - first to day-care patients at Oakhaven and more recent expansion when the chemotherapy moved to Lymington Hospital.

Whilst receiving cancer treatment, patients have the opporutinity to choose both a fresh meal to take home and warm up that evening and a frozen meal to eat another day. Meals are offered in single portions, double portions or family sizes (feeding 4 people).

All meals are freshly prepared by the Oakhaven catering team; vegetarian meals will be on offer and most dietary preferences can be catered for. All meals are financed by força – strength against cancer... Bon appétit!

Supporting the Outreach Programme

força - strength against cancer has made contributions to Southampton General Hospital’s Outreach Programme which provides chemotherapy services locally in Lymington.

Additional funding was allocated to the running costs of a car donated by Hope for Tomorrow that brings medication from Southampton to Oakhaven Hospice, putting a stop to weekly trips to the hospital for many vulnerable people receiving treatment in the local community.

Nutrition Talks

with Linda Marais

The charity has sponsored and organised nutrition talks led by a highly qualified nutritional therapist, Linda Marais, specialising in cancer to raise awareness, inform and give advice on healthy eating during and after a cancer diagnosis.

Individual support

força strength against cancer have provided individual support to a number of local families. The support has been tailored precisely to the needs of the individual and their family. In some cases donations have been made for individuals to receive important alternative therapies to complement their treatment that would otherwise be unaffordable.

Support has also been given to help local families living with cancer to create happy memories. Living with cancer can bring so much stress on family life. Uncertainty, tiredness, often reduced income and in many cases being tied to a strict treatment schedule.

forca strength against cancer have been delighted to help a number of families take a fun day out, with the aim of helping them to create happy memories and a sense of normality for their children.

Shine Cancer Support

Funds were also allocated to help Shine Cancer Support set up a network in the New Forest. Shine helps  younger adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s living with and beyond cancer to form a support network.

The group provides tailored information and peer support for anyone diagnosed with any cancer through a range of activities including lunches and dinners, beach and forest walks, workshops, online networking and mentoring.

Live Your Life After Cancer

força - strength against cancer sponsored a 'Live Your Life After Cancer' Day where two life coaches helped 20 people affected by cancer to have a brighter outlook to the future.  The day proved innovative and effective in helping people move forward after a cancer diagnosis.
